Tabular Alumina

A dense refractory material, Almatis tabular alumina is a well-sintered, crystalline alpha alumina used as both a refractory aggregate and as fines addition to the matrix.

Tabular Alumina Applications

Tabular Alumina is the material of choice in unshaped and shaped high performance refractories used in a variety of industries (steel, foundry, cement, glass, petrochemical, ceramic and waste incineration). Other common non-refractory applications include its use in kiln furniture and for metal filtration.

Other Aggregates

Almatis offers two unique specialty aggregate products for specialized refractory applications: Super Lightweight Aggregate (SLA-92) and Bonite.

SLA-92

A super lightweight aggregate, SLA-92 is a non-fibrous, high-purity insulating aggregate with microporosity based on calcium hexaluminate. This unique combination gives the material a low thermal conductivity and offers an excellent resistance to thermal shock and provides a high refractoriness.

Super Lightweight Aggregate SLA-92 Applications

Almatis super lightweight specialty aggregate SLA-92 is a high-temperature insulation raw material for:

  • Iron and steel industry
  • Aluminum industry
  • Industrial furnace industry
  • Chemical industry
  • Ceramic industry
  • Petrochemicals industry

Benefits of Almatis Super Lightweight Aggregate SLA-92

  • Low, almost constant thermal conductivity, even with rising temperatures
  • High open porosity
  • Very good thermal stability
  • Excellent thermal shock resistance
  • High refractoriness
  • High purity
  • Very good insulation, even at high temperatures

Why Almatis Super Lightweight Aggregate SLA-92 is Premium

Bonite

Bonite is a synthetic dense refractory aggregate based on calcium hexaluminate. The Almatis high temperature sintering process pre-reacts Bonite to provide a stable aggregate volume with no new phases forming during refractory heat-up.

Bonite Applications

This unique specialty refractory aggregate is valued for:

  • Low wettability in aluminum smelting
  • High chemical resistance to a cement kiln's alkaline environment
  • High refractoriness and low solubility in iron containing slag, for steelmaking
  • Stability in the reducing atmospheres of the petrochemical industry

Benefits of Almatis Bonite

  • High refractoriness (melting point of 1830°C [3326°F])
  • Low thermal conductivity
  • Low solubility in iron containing slag
  • High stability in reducing atmospheres e.g. CO
  • High chemical resistance in alkaline environment
  • Low wettability by molten metals and slag (ferrous and non-ferrous)
  • Thermal expansion coefficient similar to corundum

Why Almatis Bonite is Premium

  • Unique calcium hexaluminate-based chemistry has high volume stability for extended refractory life
  • New combination of important material properties, e.g. potential for combination of wear & insulating lining
  • Available in seven different sizes, to meet the needs of any refractory challenge
  • Globally available
